Birbeck's Pale Ale

Wow! This is an South Australian brewer Brown Brothers from Oakden. An impressive Australian pale ale that really competes with the best. Full hop taste with a nice malt mix. This beer is Devine! The after taste is almost as good as the beer itself. Fruity and hoppy with a clean pallet. 10 out of 10.

Monteith's Doppel - bock -

This is one of my favourite New Zealand brewers and this Belgian style ale that has a maltiness that is fantastic! I love the combination that the six premium malts provide. The suttleness that the aroma and fruity finish provide puts it high in the class stakes. At 6% it has enough in the glass to ride well with flavour and punch of it's more experienced European rivals. I went straight out and bought another carton of this one. Scored fantastic at 9.9 out of 10.

Lobethal Bierhaus Pale Ale

Coming from the Adelaide Hills historic town of Loberthal is this wonderfully full pale ale. It is a dark and cloudy pale ale that stands up as a fine example of how a pale ale should be. The beer ticks all the boxes and has nice strong hops a good head and an aroma that says come and get me!  This beer looks dark and inviting but the flavour is the real wow factor here. Quite simply this beer promises a lot in appearance and to be honest it simply delivers on all quarters. This may be the single biggest reason to visit Adelaide, but be warned once tasted you may never leave! Score 10 out of 10.

Quiet Deeds Pale Ale

This beer comes to us from the Red Island Brewing Company, based in New South Wales. I found this beer to be more like a golden ale with a slight hoppy pale ale finish. The head is low like some others I have reviewed and to be honest it leaves it a little flat on the nose. The taste is refreshing and quite nice but more like other golden ale offerings in that it is sweet with a hoppy finish rather than commanding the nose and taste as other fine pale ales I have reviewed do.
Overall it was enjoyable and I score it 7 out of 10.

Swell Golden Ale

This is a South Australian brewer in the McLaren Vale and I must admit I had high expectations. Gladly this one delivered. Fresh sweet and golden in flavour with a hoppy finish that lingers nicely in the pallet and provides a fullness normally seen in a Pale Ale. The bottle is 500 ml and 4.5 % with a mildly bitter hop that I really enjoyed. Score 9 out of 10.

Prancing Pony Black Ale

Having tried other ales by this South Australian brewer I had high hopes for this dark ale. It must be said that I was disappointed with this offering. Whilst it had the expected bitterness of a dark ale, it was underwhelming. The expected bite and hidden flavours beneath that wonderfully poured head were flat on the pallet and just ho hum when compared to others. This one is an also ran and a long way away from the best. I score it 5 out of 10.
